An employee who alleged discrimination would be required to demonstrate that the nature of the discrimination was intentional. The protections would apply to employers, employment agencies, labor organizations and joint labor-management committees but would exempt religious organizations. It also would specify that the bill would not alter the federal definition of marriage as being between a man and woman. Passed 235-184.
